如你听两头顺，除去你的2张手牌与3张公共牌，还有47张牌；若你听两头顺，则在这47张牌中，你能成顺有8张牌，38张不能；则比例是38:9，约为4:1。当底池为80美金，对手加注20美金，则底池扩大为100美金，如你跟注，那么胜负比例为100:20=5:1。
之后你进行对比，成牌成败比是4:1，这意味着我们应该跟注，因为我们从底池得到的成败比大于我们在下一张牌击中同花的成败比。

然而，有个会让很多人疑惑的问题：由于我们在翻牌圈，后面还有2张牌而不是1张牌没发，为什么不计算后两张牌的概率。
当计算底池成败比时，你是用当前的底池大小（和下注量）形成的底池成败比和下张牌完成听牌的可能性进行比较。如果要计算接下来2张牌完成听牌的成败比，就必须把转牌时需要支付底池的钱也计入在内。
因为无法精确估计出转牌时我们可能需要支付的钱，所以一次只计算一张牌更简单可靠。用这种方法，你最后不会支付超过你在翻牌圈拿着听牌时应该支付的钱。
只有一种情况下，你应该计算在接下来2张牌后完成最好手牌的成败比（e.g.同花听牌时成败比是2:1而不是4:1）：当你唯一的对手在翻牌圈全压。在这种情况下，你可以保证在转牌时不会遭遇另一个下注，因为对手已经没钱下注了。
